Record review of ARE YOU PASSIONATE
Quote: Regarding the single "Let's Roll"
"It's already a huge radio hit in the US, so let's not describe it as a boogey up the nose of an album full of all-time greatest hits possibilities - best just
clench the buttocks and trust Young on this one."

QUOTE:
"Stills, 57, more than holds his own in recurring rave-ups with Young, his old Buffalo Springfield
bandmate; and even "baby brother"Young, 56, plays with a focus he doesn't always show with his more
jam-oriented band Crazy Horse."

THE UK SHORE MEETING @ STICKY FINGERS RESTAURANT
THANKS GEORGE! ! !
The Second Annual UK Shore Gathering happened on Friday May 10th at Bill
Wymans Sticky Fingers Resturant in London. The occasion was a visit to our
shore from the Wonderful Buzz Person. Buzz has been a special friend to the
UK Shore members for a long time! He has gone way beyond the call of duty by
offering up his home for us to stay in and getting us tickets as well as
sending us other things that made us feel part of the CSNY tours!
A great night was had by all and food and drink flowed freely! A special
word of thanks should go to Graham Baker who took care of all the bookings
and most of the arrangements.

From the lefthand side of the table: Mark White, Buzz Person, Sir Paul
Higham, and John Clark. Right side of the table: George Abbs, Graham Baker,
Nick Dunning and Peter Purdy.

From the left: Mark White, George Abbs, Graham Baker, Peter
Purdy, SirPaul Higham, Nick Dunning, Buzz Person and John Clark!

Also I got the Special Edition DVD of THE LAST WALTZ

Contained on the disc is the film, as well as unseen footage, and much more...
I highly recommend it.
We finally get to see Stephen Stills perform with his colleagues on the classic stage of the Winterland.
This brief footage can be found in the Special Features section of the disc - in *Jam 2; which is a blues jam.
Neil Young is center stage playing off of Levon Helm, with Ringo Starr doubling up.
Ronnie Wood is playing slide and Paul Butterfield is on harmonica.
The jam is underway, and you wonder is Stephen gonna show?
On the right side of the screen you see Bill Graham "push" Stephen out
on the field....(along with a heine pat)... sans guitar.
He greets a smiling Levon with a handshake, as Levon skillfully keeps time.
For a brief moment Stephen plays air guitar till Robbie Robertson appears and hands Stephen
his guitar, plugs him in and gives him a pick! Stephen slips right into the groove and gets a brief stint with Neil, face to face...
Next thing you know the screen goes black and a paragraph appears stating that the film ran out during the jam!
Anyway it is very cool to see and hear.

*Jam 2 can also be found on the new Rhino release LAST WALTZ 4 cd Box Set

April 27th, 2002 Issue of Billboard
(These 2 items appear in the print only version - not online) - Lorraine
Chart Beat Column by Fred Bronson
(item appears on page 4)
Longtime Reprise artist Neil Young enters No. 10 with the 34th album of his solo career. Are You Passionate? is his seventh top 10 album and his first since Mirror Ball peaked at No. 5 in 1995. Simply counting Youngs solo efforts, the only albums to perform better than Are You Passionate? are Harvest (No. 1, 1972), Mirror Ball, Comes a Time (No. 7, 1978), After the Gold Rush (No. 8, 1970), Rust Never Sleeps (No. 8 1979), and Sleeps With Angels (No. 9, 1994).
Young first appeared on the Billboard album chart 35 years and one month ago, when Buffalo Springfields eponynous debut entered the chart the week of March 25th, 1967. Of the six Buffalo Springfield albums to chart, none climbed higher than No. 42, the peak position of Last Time Around in 1968 and Retrospective in 1969. Adding that bands six albums to Youngs gives him a total of 40 chart albums.
But then you would have to figure in the five albums by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young that have appeared on The Billboard 200. Deja Vu, 4Way Street, and So Far spent time at No. 1, giving Young a career total of 10 top 10 albums.

Veterans Day:
Two artists with decades-long careers, Neil Young and Bonnie Raitt, achieve higher ranks on the Billboard 200 than either has seen in recent years.
Young enters at No. 10 with 56,000 thousand units. It is his best sales week and his first top 10 album since 1995, when Mirror Ball - the album he recorded with Pearl Jam - started at No. 5 on 98,000 units.

Lorraine commentary:
No coincidence that Are You Passionate is selling well. The CSNY tour was a great promotional tool to showcase songs from the record, as well as the free promotional postcards that were being given out at the shows, the prominence of Lets Roll in the media and on the radio. Finally in the CSNY tourbook from Tour 2002 there was a full page ad for the album. All of these helped generate interest and sales.
Unfortunate to me that Nash did not get to showcase any of his tunes on this tour to promote his new release. This tour would have been key in getting the word out on SONGS FOR SURVIVORS.

SONGS FOR SURVIVORS DTS version is out now.
It is available online @ both Tower and Amazon.
Soon look for the stereo release of the album on the Artemis label.
