He's the gentleman of Rock and Roll, who came up through the backstreets of a
working class town in Northern England. Raised on American music, he became a
key part of the Hollies, before he fell in with David Crosby and Stephen
Stills. He moved to America and became both a pillar and a peacemaker within
Crosby, Stills, Nash (and then Young).

May 10th, 2002 at Bill Wyman's Sticky Fingers Resturant in London there was
The Second Annual UK Shore Gathering. The guys gathered for a nite of good eats , drink and gab @ CSNY.
The photo below is from that gathering.
They took it and made it into a beer label, for the just married CSNY fan Graham Baker.

From Paul Higham - who was an attendee (see below)

"In honour of Graham Baker's recent wedding, we purchased for him a case of
beer with these labels on the bottles."

*Congrats Graham*

Friend of the site: Tim Ryan

Read his thoughts on seeing JOE VITALE
with Dan Fogelberg @ Chastain Park earlier this month:

THANKS TIM!

"Vitale was cool, played a long flute solo, yes flute solo for the old
Firefall song "Strange Way to Tell Me you Love Me"..., it was very
good....Folgelberg was cool, had very good group playing with him, it was
weird to see Vitale bouncing and keepin' time, I've seen that so many times,
I was looking for SS....that was the good, ....THE BAD....Chastain Park is a
social event, I knew I was in trouble when legions of people dragging their
coolers in, it reminded me of softball moms, then inside they set up little
tray tables with candles, wine bottles, food....I'm shaking my head, going
ohhhhhhh nooooo, this is not good...."

update

Joe Vitale in the early years... great rock star hair Joe!
Joe is currently out on the road with Dan Fogelberg.

Here is an update on the whereabouts of Joe Vitale + Joe Vitale jr.

* * *

Joe Vitale and Joe Vitale Jr. recently released a "looping" cd

Check HERE for info to purchase.

Unconventional Percussion Loops
Picture two grown men spending countless hours pounding away at a pile of worthless junk. Then, picture yourself paying good money to acquire hundreds of little snippets of what this might sound like. Strange? Maybe at first glance, but everything becomes clear when you discover that the men are superstar percussionist Joe Vitale and producer Joe Vitale Jr. The sounds are from Junkyard Rhythms, the Vitales' second Loops for ACID™ loop library, and the buyers of this noise are part of the worldwide network of renegade music makers who use Sonic Foundry ACID™ to blaze new trails in modern music. After building Latin Percussion, the Vitales momentarily ran out of things to hit. So off to the junkyard they went, in search of chance metallic objects that yield maximum klang. What they found will amaze you! So, if you need some percussion that'll make people say, "What the heck was that!?" then look no further than Junkyard Percussion because one man's trash is another man's drum kit.
868 (470MB) original, license-free loops.

They previously released this Latin percussion looping cd.

From the ARTEMIS RECORDS SITE

Graham Nash's latest record 'Songs for Survivors' will be in stores July 30th.

Excerpt from the site - info @ the upcoming STEREO release of Songs for Survivors,
as well as info @ his coming book From Eye to Eye

2002 also marks the release of his first solo album project in over a decade, Songs For Survivors, in both 5.1 (on DTS Entertainment) and stereo (on Artemis Records) mixes. To make the record, Graham enlisted the help of longtime pal and musical cohort Russell Kunkel, and Russ' son Nathaniel, as co-producers. Recorded and mixed in California and Hawaii from late 2000 into 2001, the album's tracks, says Nash, "are songs that came about three days before we started, and songs that I'd been living with for twenty years." Together, they are an expression of a mature artist in full command of his powers, and Graham affirms that, "It was incredibly enjoyable just being an artist instead of being one of the guys who puts it all together. All I wanted to do was sing my songs, and the recording experience was one of the most rewarding of my life." Graham's and Russ' association, both personal and professional, dates back to the days of the first Crosby and Nash album in 1972, making Songs For Survivors an endeavor richened by the fabric of many decades of friendship. Recently, Graham, Russ and Nathaniel also co-produced "Lotta Love," an all-star, two-night concert event in tribute to Russ' late wife, singer Nicolette Larson, with proceeds benefiting pediatric facilities at UCLA Medical Center.

Also upcoming is the publication of From Eye To Eye, a deluxe volume-printed by Los Angeles' revered Gardner Press-of more than 150 of Nash's black & white photographs. In putting the book together, Graham went through more than 20,000 images shot over the past four decades, and an upcoming show is planned to coincide with the book's release.

Thanks to Steven T.

From the Phil Lesh RELIX cover article of June/July 2002

Q: Did you talk to David Crosby while you were sick?

A: Oh, yeah! As soon as he heard I was having liver problems, he was right there. He was a

brick, and Stanley Mouse, too. Both of those guys have had liver transplants and

they were like pillars for me. In fact, David and I compare scars. I think mine is prettier.

It amazes me that it takes a UK publication to actually “GET IT.”
No disrespect to Mojo, which I know is a fine, fine publication; but in the US media -
(the general show reviews were positive,) the writers were not very csny nor musically savy shall we say.
Mojo has balls.. thanks to Mojo and the author of the review Mr Matthew Greenwald.
Oh and another reason you should seek this issue out is that they give you a CD with the magazine called "The Score,"
which I am listening to as I type this. VERY COOL... it is made up of 20 'ultra cool soundtracks'.
Now playing: Midnight Cowboy.
The CSNY review can be found on
page 150 in the Filter Section
Here is an excerpt:
CSNY @ Los Angeles Staples Center
CSNY Finally live up to their potential with help from Booker T, Steve Potts, and Duck Dunn.
“There is, believe it or not, a very real place called The Perfect World. It doesn’t happen often and, like everything, it’s always temporary.
But for about three hours at the Los Angeles Staples Centre, CSNY take the audience into this nebulous realm.
It takes a little while, but about 20 minutes into the set, Graham Nash’s, “I Used to be a King,” kicks in with its elongated hard rock waltz
and the band play as one. With Stephen Stills and Neil Young dancing off one another in an incredible electric guitar duet, (not dual)
and the whole group blending for possibly the finest four-part harmony vocal to come out of this legendary quartet, they are indeed, perfect.”.....
RE: Almost Cut My Hair -
“Crosby belting out an almost gospel/blues vocal above and around Stills and Young apocalyptic fretwork.”
“Stills steals the second part of the show with an amazing reading of Booker T’s - “Old Man Trouble,”
pulverising the song with a bluesy vocal on a level with Joe Cocker or Ray Charles.”.....
AMEN - get the mag and read the whole review... It’s worth it...

Bonnie Raitt cover article in the July / August 2002 issue of

My Generation Magazine

In it she discusses her work with The Guacamole Fund.
"Much of Raitt's political work is in tandem with The Guacamole Fund, a non-profit group based in Los Angeles
that organizes benefits for various social causes. 'Bonnie started working with us in 1975,' says Tom Campbell,
who launched the fund in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1974.
'She's probably participated in close to 350 events for us, and she constantly calling and saying, I want to help this
organization and this is when I'm free to do it.' She works incredibly hard for the things she believes in."

CSNY review of the MSG shows in the new issue of RELIX

Review can be found on page 14-15

Review by Jim Fahey

"Later, Madison Square erupted when the quartet sang, 'And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.'

CSNY are still willing, ready and able to carry on."

A stellar, stellar review of CSNY 2002 in the current issue of MOJO.
Thanks to Sir Paul Higham for passing that one along a few weeks ago.
Mojo hits the newstands here later in the USA, than in the UK.
