Stella Blue
Garcia + Hunter

All the years combine, they melt into a dream,
A broken angel sings from a guitar.
In the end there's just a song comes cryin' up the night
Thru all the broken dreams and vanished years.
Stella blue. Stella blue.

When all the cards are down, there's nothing left to see,
There's just the pavement left and broken dreams.

In the end there's still that song comes cryin' like the wind.
Down every lonely street that's ever been
Stella blue. Stella blue.

I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel, can't win for trying.
Dust off those rusty strings just one more time,
Gonna make them shine, shine

It all rolls into one and nothing comes for free,
There's nothing you can hold, for very long.
And when you hear that song come crying like the wind,
It seems like all this life was just a dream.
Stella blue. Stella blue.

April-May issue of Relix 2002©

I just received the April-May 2002 Issue of Relix Magazine
3 CSN related pertinent items of note:

I. There is a 2 page interview with Graham Nash in there by Mick Skidmore.
Pages 30-31

Titled: Deja Vu: It's Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young all over again! An interview with Graham Nash.
Instead of me typing the whole article, here are a few tidbits:

Q: The last time we spoke you mentioned that you recorded most of the shows on the last tour with a view to release a live album or DVD, what happened?
A: The reality is that we were not 100% happy with the way the band sounded last time so we are going to record every night of this tour and possibly end up with something better and get up the energy to work on it after the tour is finished.

In Regards to Songs for Survivors:
NASH: "I have never been this well recorded; the songs are fabulous. The whole experience of the recordings was just thrilling to me and I'm anxious to share it with people. It's mostly songs that I wrote, a couple were co-written with my friend Joe Vitale and one Richard and Linda Thompson song, "Pavanne" (from the First Light album). I used to do it 20 years ago and I just re-remembered it and we decided we could cut it.

Q: Who plays on the album?
A: A bunch of Nashville cats, really. Matt Rollins on piano. Victor Krause - who is Allison Krause's brother - on upright bass. Russell Kunkel on drums; he also produced it with his son Nathanial. There were various guitar players - Steve Ferris, Dan Dugmore, Dean Parks - they are some really great musicians. This time I wanted to play with people that I had never played with before.

Q: Who is releasing your album - a major label, or an independant?
A: Both. The label is Artemis, which is the largest independant left. The 5.1 surround sound mix is being put out by DTS,
which does the majority of those movie soundtracks.

Nash commentary on today's musical landscape:
Best quote here: NASH: "It's all boy bands and tits these days."

2 more notable items:
Discussion of getting the out of print records out on CD,
and talk of a proposed CSN demo project.

II. In the cd Reviews Column called "Plundering the Vaults"
Page 86
Mick Skidmore also reviews The Byrds Preflyte Sessions cd

III. In the "In Short" column, on
Page 86
It reviews the "Running Wild," cd by Rice, Rice, Hillman and Pedersen.
QUOTE:
"This 3rd album from this country/rock/bluegrass supergroup is every bit as good as it's predecesor....
'...surprisingly good cover of Stephen Stills 4+20...'

@ MSG in NYC
by Anthony DeCurtis
Excerpt: "CSNY, bolstered by the rhythmic might of keyboardist Booker T. Jones, bassist
Donald "Duck" Dunn and drummer Steve Potts, rocked hard on "Woodstock," and "Cinnamon Girl,"
and floated beautifully on "Helplessly Hoping," and David Crosby's "Guinnevere."

the actual cover art

The album cover art was given to my site 03/29/02 from Loring Kohrt @ Valley Entertainment
I originally posted the cover 03/18 /02 from a pre-release fax I received from the manager @ Tower Records Paramus-NJ
That image was gray, since I cut and pasted it from my fax. The above is now the correct image.

NEW NASH IS COMING...NEW NASH IS COMING...NEW NASH IS COMING...

Loring Kohrt from Valley Entertainment contacted me 03/29/02 regarding the new NASH record.
I asked her how someone who did not have 5.1 capabilities could listen to the record and
she assured me it was possible. Read below:

"...If you don't have a 5.1 Home Theatre
system you can still enjoy the music from the 2.0 (Stereo) Track on the
DVD-A. There is a menu screen that will pop up on your TV when you put the
disc into any DVD Player. Then you choose with your remote control how you
want to listen."

Issue of Billboard Magazine
In Timothy White's weekly column

MUSIC TO MY EARS

He discusses going to see CSNY in Boston:

"This columnists first night out after my skiing mishaps was a concert at the
Fleet Center in Boston by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (CSN&Y). Here was a
group I hadn't seen live since a June 1970 gig at the Fillmore East in
Greenwich Village; I was amazed at how good they remained and how effective
their more recent material was, from Crosby, Stills & Nash's 1982 hit "Southern
Cross" to Young's 1989 "Rockin in the Free World" and his ode to September 11,
heroism, 'Lets Roll.'"

RECORD REVIEW
NEIL YOUNG
Album Title: Are You Passionate?
Producer(s): Neil Young
Genre: ROCK
Label/Catalog Number: Reprise 2-48111
Source: PRINT
Originally Reviewed: March 30, 2002
Recording for the first time with sometime touring mates and Stax studio vets
keyboardist Booker T. Jones and bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn (both of Booker T.
& the MG's), Neil Young turns out his version of classic soul music here's a
group of midtempo, often organ-propelled, electric guitar-led songs that have
more in common with the acoustic, on-the-stool vibe of his Harvest and
Harvest Moon records than the raging roar of his Crazy Horse sets (though the
full Crazy Horse lineup does make an appearance on the rousing "Goin' Home").
Apart from "Let's Roll," Young's tribute to Sept. 11 hero Todd Beamer, some
of these songs about life, love, family, friends, and the world seem subtly
laced with lyrics inspired by the terrorist attacks, which helps make Are You
Passionate? seem not only like a great next step in Young's career but also
the best album he could have issued right now.
